If You Experienced Damage From The Weekend Wind Event, We Need To Hear From You
The Emergency Management Team is working on applying to have the windstorm in the Columbia Valley this past weekend declared eligible for Disaster FinancialAssistance (DFA).The specifics of what DFA might look like or what might be covered would be the second step in the process. The first step is getting the Province to declare this an eligible event.
To help us build the case for the impacts across the entire Columbia Valley, we have developed a Damage Report form that will help us demonstrate to the Province the magnitude and scope of the damages. This is for the entire Columbia Valley – including all rural areas, municipalities and First Nations. We need your help. If you sustained damage from the windstorm – please fill out this form and share photos (trees, damage to property, vehicles, boats, etc). The more detail we can provide to the Province, the better.
- To fill out a Damage Report Form: https://engage.rdek.bc.ca/wind
Please fill out the form no later than 8am on Tuesday, September 3. This form can be used for damages starting Friday night and right through September 3 should further damages occur in the next weather event this week.
Make sure to document damages, take lots of photos and hang on to any receipts that you incur as these can often be valuable in insurance claims.
We are continuing to work on options for managing debris. At this time, if you have debris, please take it directly to the Columbia Valley landfill. Our rural transfer station bins are being serviced more often to help deal with the additional volume; however, if you can take debris directly to the Landfill, that is the best option. We will keep you advised should we be approved for other options for managing debris.
