Why is my tap water brown?
We understand your frustration & your concerns, we wanted to explain why it happens, because it is not as bad as it may look!
The brown colour in your tap water isn’t due to soil or contamination. It’s caused by a naturally occurring mineral called Manganese, which interacts with our water treatment process and forms sediment.
When there’s a sudden or increased flow of water (such as filling a hot tub or running irrigation) any sediment that has settled in the water lines gets stirred up and mixes with the water, resulting in a temporary brown discoloration at the tap.
In most cases, this can be resolved by running the tap for several minutes until the water runs clear. If the discoloration is only coming from the hot tap, flushing your hot water tank may help.
