WWTP Sewage Lagoons

 In Home, News, Utilities, Water

While the cooler weather this week has certainly helped to reduce odours from the District’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), we are still experiencing odour issues from one of the lagoons. To help address the issue, District staff are looking into ways to increase the amount of dissolved oxygen present in the lagoons which will help keep the active bacteria (bugs) happy while they break down the materials in the WWTP lagoons. Some of the potential methods being investigated the District could include additional aeration units, introducing chemical additives, or adding new technologies to support the operation of the WWTP. However, each of these methods involve WWTP process changes that will take time to implement and can only be used if they are deemed appropriate for Invermere’s WWTP. District staff are working hard to address this matter.
