JOIN INVERMERE FIRE RESCUE

Serving your community starts with you. Invermere Fire Rescue is seeking dedicated community members to join our paid-on-call fire department.

Since 1952, Invermere Fire Rescue has proudly served the District of Invermere and surrounding areas. Our members respond to emergencies, support public safety, and help protect the people who live, work, and visit the Columbia Valley.

What we do

Our team responds to 150-200 calls each year, including:

  • Residential and commercial fires Vehicle accidents and highway rescues
  • Wildland-urban interface fires
  • Technical rescues and hazardous incidents
  • Fire prevention, inspections, and public education

We train regularly, work safely, and support one another on every call.

 

Requirements

No fire experience required. We provide training, you bring commitment, reliability, and a desire to serve.

Basic requirements:

  • 19 years of age or older
  • Live in or near Invermere (able to respond promptly)
  • Valid BC driver’s licence (Class 7N minimum)
  • Physically fit and able to pass a department fitness test
  • Clean criminal record check

 

Training time & Commitment

Entry Training:

  • A structured, paid five-month Exterior Firefighter Program (November-April), one weekend day per month

Weekly Training:

  • Tuesday evenings 7-9 pm (hands-on & skills-based)

On Call Duties:

  • Approximately one weekend per month
  • Call Response – Members aim for 50-70% availability

 

Support & Wellness

Firefighting is demanding-physically and mentally. Our goal is to help members succeed both on and off the job. We prioritize:

  • Safety-focused training
  • Access to an on-site gym
  • A dedicated mental health support program
  • Professional leadership and peer support
