The next local government election for Mayor and Councillors in Invermere will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Local government elections are held every four years across British Columbia on the third Saturday in October.

Your vote shapes your community. We encourage everyone who is eligible to get informed and participate.

Thinking About Running?

Serving on Council is one of the most meaningful ways to contribute to the community you call home. Mayors and Councillors play a direct role in the services, programs, and decisions that shape life in Invermere every day.

If elected, you would serve a four-year term beginning November 3, 2026.

To run for Mayor or Councillor in Invermere, you must meet all of the following:

  • Be 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day, October 17, 2026
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months before filing your nomination documents — that means prior to March 10, 2026
  • Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other applicable legislation

Good to know You do not need to live in Invermere to run for office here.

Mayor: approximately $32,356.29 per year with an annual cost of living increase. Councillor: approximately $19,413.78 per year with an annual cost of living increase.

Elections BC oversees campaign financing for all local government elections in BC. As a candidate you will need to:

  • Open a separate campaign account for all financial transactions
  • File a disclosure statement with Elections BC within 90 days after General Voting Day

Ready to Vote?

You can vote in the District of Invermere election if you are a resident of Invermere or if you own property here, even if you do not live here full time.

RESIDENT ELECTORS

You qualify to vote as a resident elector if you:

  • Are 18 years of age or older on the day of registration or on General Voting Day
  • Are a Canadian citizen
  • Have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months before the day of registration
  • Are not disqualified from voting by law

NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS

You qualify to vote as a non-resident property elector if you:

  • Are 18 years of age or older on the day of registration or on General Voting Day
  • Are a Canadian citizen
  • Have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months before the day of registration
  • Have been a registered owner of real property in Invermere for at least 30 days before the day of registration
  • Are not disqualified from voting by law

Please note that you may only register as a non-resident property elector for one parcel of real property.

To register as a resident elector on voting day, bring two pieces of identification showing your identity and residency, and at least one must include your signature. Accepted ID includes a BC Driver’s Licence, BC ID Card, BC Services Card, ICBC Registration, Citizenship Card, SIN card, tax notice, credit or debit card, or utility bill. If your BC Driver’s Licence and Services Card are combined, that counts as one piece of ID.

To register as a non-resident property elector, bring proof of property ownership such as a property tax notice, BC Assessment notice, State of Title Certificate, Title Search, or Certificate of Indefeasible Title, along with two pieces of ID as listed above.
